01
Repertoire
Students learn real pieces from day one —classical, contemporary, and everything in between. Repertoire builds musical identity and keeps students motivated.

02
Technique
Scales, finger exercises, and posture fundamentals — practised consistently so students can play anything with control and ease.

03
Reading Music
The ability to read and play music they've never seen before. A skill most casual learners never develop — we build it from the start.

04
Listening Skills
Students learn to hear music with intention — recognising rhythm, pitch, and musical structure. It sharpens everything else they do at the piano.

05
Music Theory
The grammar behind the music. Students understand what they're playing, not just how to play it — making them more independent and versatile musicians.
How We Teach Piano
Fortepiano’s
Five-Pillar
Curriculum
Fortepiano’s
Five-Pillar Curriculum
Every student in our piano program learns across all five dimensions — not just songs. Progress is ability-based, not time-based. Students advance when they're ready, not when the term ends.

PROGRESS TRACKING
Formal Progress Assessment
Every 12 classes, your child's piano progress is formally reviewed - not just by their teacher, but by the Head Teacher.
Parents receive these after every assessment cycle.

Foundation to Grade 2
From reading their very first notes to performing confidently at Grade 2 standard, our students build strong musical foundations. Students begin with both hands, both clefs, and real music from day one. As they progress, pieces grow in complexity — introducing hands-together playing, classical études, formal music theory, and increasingly expressive, independent performance.

Grade 3 to Grade 5
Serious musicianship begins. Bach enters the picture alongside two-octave scales, complex rhythms, and harmony that demands real understanding. Repertoire grows ambitious — and personal. By Grade 5, students are performing Chopin, Debussy, Einaudi, and Bach inventions.

Grade 6 to Grade 8
The advanced stages — where technique, artistry, and musical identity come together. Repertoire spans the full breadth of the classical and contemporary canon, with pieces that demand precision, expression, and depth of interpretation. Harmony and theory reach examination level.

Fortepiano's Five-Pillar system — Repertoire, Technique, Sight-Reading, Aural Training, and Music Theory, is a structured, multi-year framework designed from the ground up. Our program offers the same rigour you'd find in formal music conservatories, delivered at your home.
Every student is assessed against the same framework. Every teacher is held to the same standard. The learning system doesn't change — regardless of who's teaching.

What Parents Say
Why families choose Fortepiano
My son has been taking piano lessons from fortepiano for the last 10 months and the experience has been fantastic. His teacher has a great way of keeping him engaged while ensuring he learns the fundamentals. We've seen a huge boost in his confidence and musicality.

Ask the academy for recommending a fantastic teacher named Mr Adarsh! Very disciplined at teaching, extremely patient and makes sure that children learn and have fun with the piano. Both the head teacher and Mr Adarsh are very technically sound with piano.
